Chingudi Patra Poda : Shrimp cooked in Pumkin Leaf

Patra Poda is a very traditional Odiya recipe. It cooked with minimal oil, using the steam. The food is delicious and healthy. People use banana leaf or pumpkin leaf for the preparation . I didn't have either so I user zucchini leaf.

Ingredients:

  1. Shrimp : 10-12  deveined
  2. Baby potatoes: sliced into medium slices.
  3. Mustard Paste: 2tbsp ( grind, 2 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds and 5-6 cloves of garlic pod)
  4. Red Chili Powder: 1 tbsp
  5. Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  6. Green Chili: 2 -3 slit length wise
  7. Salt: to taste
  8. Mustard oil: 1 tsp
  9. Zucchini Leafs: 4-5 large
Procedure:

In a bowl mix the Mustard paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and oil to make a smooth paster.

Marinate the shrimp, potato, & Green chili in the masala and let it sit for about 30 mins.

The zucchini & pumpkin leaf are generally stiff and might break while wrapping so first massage the leafs nicely to soften them a little.

Now spread little oil over the leaf. Put the prawn’s mixture over it and fold the leaf to house the mixture inside.

Bind the leaves with normal threads.

You should put at least three to four outer covering of zucchini & pumpkin leaf.

Preheat a cast iron tawa, place the packet on the tawa and cook for about 20 mins.

If not feeling confident on tawa, alternately you can bake it in over at 350 F for about 25 mins.

The Patra poda is ready to be served.

Serve it hot with pakhala and enjoy.

Till then happy blogging.
