Chingudi Chadchadi

As I have mentioned in many of my post, I grew up eating a lot of fish and shrimp. My brother always preferred shrimp over fish and his favorite preparation was the one my Mausi made. Its a dry preparation with mustard paste.
It is generally prepared with smaller shrimps but as I had only the medium sized one's from the Costco, I used them.
But if you can find some small ones it would be perfect.
Ingredients:
  1. Small Shrimp: 1/2 pound with scale and cleaned.
  2. Mustard Paste: 2tbsp ( grind, 2 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds and 5-6 cloves of garlic pod)
  3. Onion: 1 medium finely chopped
  4. Pancha Phutan: 1 tsp
  5. Whole Green Chilli: 2-3
  6. Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  7. Oil: 1 tbsp
  8. Salt as per taste

Procedure:

Marinate the prawns in little salt and pinch of turmeric for 5-10 mind.
In a kadhai or frying pan heat oil and fry the shrimp for 2-3 minutes or till it turns slight pink on all sides.
Remove the shrimp and to the same pan add pancha phutan and let it crackle.
As it stops crackling add the chopped onion with a pinch of salt and cook till onion is transulent.
Add the shrimp to it.
Also the turmeric powder, green chillies and salt.
Add the mustard paste to it.
Then add 1/3 cup of water. Mix well and cover and cook with the lid on till it comes to a boil.
Remove the lid and cook until it all becomes dry and oil separates.
Serve it with hot rice or pakhala and enjoy.
Till then Happy Blogging
