Chenna Kheeri

Orissa is famous for its sweets made of chenna and one of the very popular and yummy dishes is chenna kheeri. Its basically Kheer but instead of rice we use chenna.
Chenna is home made panner and is very soft and moist as compared to store bought paneer.
You can easily make chenna at home, for that please read my post for Rasagulla
Chenna kheeri is becoming a very popular dessert in Oriya weddings and other parties and hope fully next time I visit India somebody gets married and invites me to the party for sure make some chenna kheeri :)

Ingredients:

  1. Chenna: 1/2 Cup
  2. Milk: 5 cups
  3. Ghee: 1 tsp
  4. Sugar: 1 cup (Increase or reduce as per your taste)
  5. Cardamon: 2 Crushed
  6. Sliced Almonds: for garnish.

Procedure:
In a pan  dry roast the drained chenna till all the extra water dries up and a grainy texture is achieved.
Remove from heat.
In a deep pot heat milk and bring it to a boil, reduce the heat and let the milk seamer with sugar and crushed cardamon till it is reduced to almost half. Keep stirring in-between other wise milk wold start sinking to the bottom.
Add the grainy  chenna , Ghee and continue cooking for another 30 mins.
Til milk would turn a beautiful saffron color and the you would have achieved a thicker consistency.
Let it cool down, then garnish with almonds and serve chilled.

I hope you enjoy this amazing dessert from Orissa.
Till then Happy Blogging
